Research Groups

Discover the CNPq Research Groups supported by the LCCMat computational platform.

The active research lines primarily encompass the fields of Physics, Engineering, Chemistry, and Biology. These constitute the core subjects for undergraduate research projects, master's dissertations, doctoral theses, and postdoctoral research projects. LCCMat serves as the main multi-user computational platform for cooperation between the Institute of Physics and the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Faculty of Technology of the University of Brasília. Furthermore, it provides support for high-performance scientific computing conducted by researchers and students from the Atomic and Molecular Physics and the Structure of Matter research groups at the Institute of Physics of the University of Brasília. Several research lines are developed at LCCMat, with a primary focus on materials science. These are led by researchers from diverse fields of knowledge who also conduct projects through internal and external collaborations, thereby imparting a multidisciplinary character to the laboratory.

Theoretical Physics and Computational Modeling (Link)

Leaders: Antonio de Macedo Filho; Agmael Mendonça Silva.

Predominant Area: Exact and Earth Sciences; Physics.

Impact: Due to a considerable number of researchers in the Physics Program at the State University of Piauí, the field of Physics has sparked notable interest regarding scientific production. The interaction among these researchers and those from other fields justifies the establishment of this research base. The scientific focus of this base is the development of research involving methods from Statistical Physics and Computer Science, alongside mathematical methods for solving problems in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The research output produced by this base will be published in local, national, and/or international journals.

AQUARELA – Applications with Quality of Service in High-Speed Networks (Link)

Leaders: Fábio Lúcio Lopes de Mendonça; Ricardo Staciarini Puttini.

Predominant Area: Engineering; Electrical Engineering.

Impact: Enhancement of communication network and information processing services in terms of performance, availability, security, and quality; Technology transfer to the IT and telecommunications market, embedded in effective University-Industry interaction, particularly within the context of the Capital Digital Technological Park (PTCD-DF), an information and communication technology hub in the Federal District (the 2nd largest IT and telecommunications market in the country). Integration of research activities with human resources training in the fields of information and communication technology, impacting the training of 320 undergraduate students, 20 master’s students, and 5 doctoral students per semester. The goals for the next 3 years include: 10 master’s dissertations, 2 doctoral theses, 15 final undergraduate projects, 3 journal articles, 15 conference proceeding articles, and 8 software prototypes; Experimentation of the focal technologies addressed in a real-world field environment.

Research in Science Education and its Dispositifs: Subjects, Knowledge, Practices, Discourses, and Policies (Link)

Leaders: Marcello Ferreira; Olavo Leopoldino da Silva Filho.

Predominant Area: Humanities; Education.

Impact: The Research Group on Science Education and its Dispositifs: Subjects, Knowledge, Practices, Discourses, and Policies has conducted investigations, publications, and scientific events in the field of the theoretical-methodological foundations of science education. This is done considering critical and post-critical frameworks from the fields of subjectivity, knowledge, and power. Its effects reach a network of researchers, undergraduate and graduate students, research spaces and facilities, as well as educational networks in the Federal District and regions linked to its research ecosystem.

Materials Modeling and Simulation Group (Link)

Leaders: Luiz Antonio Ribeiro Junior; Marcelo Lopes Pereira Junior.

Predominant Area: Exact and Earth Sciences; Physics.

Impact: The Materials Modeling and Simulation Group (GMSM) was established in 2020. It comprises members from two graduate programs: the Graduate Program in Physics and the Graduate Program in Materials Science, both at the University of Brasília. GMSM has been collaborating with other research groups in domestic and foreign universities and has achieved a solid annual output of articles in international peer-reviewed journals.

Study of the Electronic and Transport Properties of Organic Semiconductors (Link)

Leaders: Demétrio Antônio da Silva Filho; Pedro Henrique de Oliveira Neto.

Predominant Area: Exact and Earth Sciences; Physics.

Impact: Among the highlights of this research group’s impact is an article published in 2014 in the journal Advanced Functional Materials. This article was featured on the main cover of the journal, which holds a Qualis A1 classification and an Impact Factor (IF) of 11.805.
